The late Paul Schatte of Ponca City served as an executive with Head Country Food
Co. for more than two decades, helping to elevate the Oklahoma business to a brand
recognized worldwide for its barbecue products. Behind that work, Schatte was highly
influential in the success of the OSU Robert M. Kerr Food and Agricultural Products
Center.
Schatte, who died this year, was a lifelong educator, entrepreneur, civic leader and
advocate for food safety. He served for many years on the FAPC Industry Advisory Committee
and even established a sauce and condiment bottling line for the center to help small
businesses get on their feet. He promoted the food safety option at OSU and worked
with state 4-H and FFA advisors to discuss bringing food safety to more Oklahoma high
schools.
