Faculty Spotlight – Amanda de Oliveira Silva

Monday, December 21, 2020

Dr. Amanda de Oliveira Silva joined the Plant and Soil Sciences team in 2019 as our Small Grains Extension Specialist and serves as an integral part of DASNR’s Wheat Improvement Team.

Dr. Silva completed her undergraduate studies at Sao Paulo State University, Master of Science in agronomy and crop science at Purdue University. She then attended the Kansas State University where she earned a Ph.D. in agronomy and crop science.

This is Dr. Silva’s second time working at OSU. As an undergraduate, she worked with Dr. Chad Godsey (former cropping systems specialist) as a crop science visiting research scholar. In this role, she executed field operations to improve oilseed production strategies and managed a project evaluating the long-juvenile trait in soybean in the greenhouse.

Dr. Silva plans to develop an applied research and extension program, which uses information on crop physiology and plant nutrient requirements during the growing season to improve wheat variety characterization. She also plans to evaluate nutrient management strategies and farming systems that optimize yield while maintaining environmental stewardship.
