Melissa joined the Department in August of 2013 as the Administrative Assistant Supervisor. Prior to this, Melissa served for 14 years in the U.S. Army, co-owned and operated a precision machining and welding business in Ripley, Oklahoma called R.K. Machine, Inc., and managed the local diner, Shortcakes in Stillwater. Melissa graduated in 2005 from OSU with her bachelor's in Psychology and was accepted to the Forensics Graduate Program at UCO, but soon after was deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom and had to finish her Masters through a program offered to veterans online. Melissa has one son, Lincoln, that was born in 2014, and he has essentially grown up in the Department. Currently you can find Melissa working as the Assistant to the Department Head, working on her family's land raising her livestock, and operating her family's race shop, Rick Kirk Racing, where they race cars, 4-wheelers, dirt bikes, or pretty much anything with wheels, and rebuilding drag cars while trying to keep up with an active country boy!
