Course Learning Outcomes

Students will gain a better understanding of international agriculture by participating in a variety of activities that demonstrate the relationship between agriculture and the local culture. This course features direct contact and experiences with Ireland’s rich agricultural landscape, encompassing livestock, crop, aquaculture, equine, and value-added food and beverage production systems.

Course Highlights

  • Visit beef, sheep, dairy, fruit, oyster, goat, and grain farms representing Ireland’s diverse agricultural industries.
  • Explore agricultural entrepreneurship through visits to cider orchards, whiskey distilleries, farm breweries, artisan cheese producers, and on-farm ice cream enterprises.
  • Interact with agricultural producers while examining innovative and sustainable farming practices.
  • Experience Irish culture through traditional bread-making, local food tastings, and overnight stays in rural farming communities.
  • Tour historic sites including Giant’s Causeway, Cahir Castle, St. Canice’s Cathedral, and Ireland’s medieval cities.

  • AGEC 5990: International Agricultural Economics Tour in Ireland (3 credit hours, graduate level)

*Undergraduate students at Oklahoma State University are required to take a class that carries a G designation for graduation purposes.
