AIAEE: An International Experience
Thurday, June 18, 2026
Each year, students and faculty from universities around the world attend the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE) Annual Conference. While there, members collaborate, share ideas, and present research, all related to agriculture. This year, 11 Oklahoma State University students and faculty traveled to the Texas Tech University campus in San Jose, Costa Rica, to attend the event.
Laney Reasner, an agricultural communications graduate student, attended her second AIAEE this year. Reasner had the chance to travel to Scotland for AIAEE last year, and Costa Rica this year, she explained.
“I think it is a really awesome and unique experience, especially for a student to be able to not only travel abroad, but go to a research conference of such scale,” Reasner said. “There are people from all over the world at this conference, and everyone is battling the same issues in terms of ag education and Extension.”
Reasner, a Pennsylvania native, explained she enjoys learning about research being conducted around the globe, including that being conducted in her home state. In addition to the research aspect of her trip, Reasner reflected on the cultural experience she gained as well. She explained getting to experience different cultures has been an eye-opening experience for her over the last two years.
This semester, Reasner defended her master's thesis, which explored community resilience in the community of Altus, Oklahoma. While at AIAEE, Reasner presented a poster with her findings. She noted one of the most interesting parts of her trip abroad was how many individuals at the conference knew about the small town of Altus.
“[It was] just a really rewarding, full-circle experience,” Reasner said. “Hearing from people that they are facing similar issues, or they are doing similar studies in different parts of the world.”
OSU students and faculty presented multiple research studies and posters while in Costa Rica. See a full list of OSU student and faculty research presented below; awarded research is denoted with an asterisk.
