Maria Southerland received a 2026 P-IE Section Student Travel Award from the Entomological Society of America.

New Graduate Students
Ameer Awada is beginning his M.S. degree with Dr. Mohammad Arif. His research will focus on bacterial diseases affecting wheat in the Great Plains region and will include the identification and characterization of bacterial pathogens of wheat, investigating the diversity of bacterial diseases in wheat, and conducting comparative genomic and phylogenomic analyses to better understand the diversity of these pathogens. Ameer received his B.S. degree in Horticulture from Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pennsylvania in 2026.
Anjali Dave is beginning her M.S. degree in Food Science with Dr. Li Ma. Anjali received her B.S. degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina in 2026.
Amber Fox is beginning her M.S. degree with Dr. Li Ma. Amber received her B.S. degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina in 2026.
Jacie Guerrero is beginning her M.S. degree with Dr. Ashleigh Faris. Her research will focus on developing efficient and accurate scouting protocols for chinch bugs in grain sorghum, and the relationship of population intensity and sorghum yield for economic injury level. Jacie received her B.S. degree in Plant, Soil, and Environmental Science from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas in 2026.
Chad Zerr has converted from a M.S. degree program to a Ph.D. candidacy with Dr. Wyatt Hoback.

Alumnus News
Dr. Patick Rydzak (Ph.D. 2019) and Taylore Elwick were married on December 8, 2024 at The Barn at Bonner Creek in Richardson, Texas. After finishing the FBI Visiting Science Program managed by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science Education in May 2022, he accepted a position as Molecular Microbiologist at the Johnson Space Center at NASA in Houston, Texas. He received his B.S. degree in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 2012, his M.S. degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2015 under the direction of Dr. Blake Bextine, and his Ph.D. degree in Plant Pathology from OSU in August 2019 under the direction of Drs. Astri Wayadande and Francisco Ochoa Corona.
