Study Abroad Course in Spain and Morocco
Course Learning Outcomes
This course will deepen students’ understanding of southern Spain’s agriculture, history, and culture through immersive, first-hand experiences. Students will broaden their knowledge of the region’s agricultural production, processing, and marketing while exploring the historical, geographical, and cultural influences that shape Andalusia. A visit to Morocco will further expand students’ perspectives on the historical and cultural connections between southern Spain and northern Morocco.
Course Highlights
- Explore agricultural production and innovation through visits focused on cooperative management, sustainable crop management, irrigation efficiency, food processing, quality control, traceability, and international marketing.
- Discover Andalusia’s food and beverage traditions through local cuisine, olive oil production, traditional Iberian meat products, and a visit to a historic Sherry winery to learn about production, aging, quality control, and international commercialization.
- Explore historical and cultural landmarks, including Málaga’s Alcazaba and Roman Theatre, Granada’s Alhambra and Generalife gardens, and Seville’s Cathedral and Giralda.
- Visit Tangier, Morocco, to explore its historic medina and cultural heritage while examining the geographical, historical, and cultural connections between southern Spain and northern Morocco across the Strait of Gibraltar.

- PLNT 5110 Special Study in Plant Sciences – Study Abroad Course in Spain and Morocco (3 credit hours, graduate level)
*Undergraduate students at Oklahoma State University are required to take at least one class that carries a G designation for graduation purposes.
