Study Abroad Course in the United Kingdom
Course Learning Outcomes
This course will deepen students’ understanding of the United Kingdom’s impact on garden design, landscape design and horticulture. Students will examine the cultural and horticultural attitudes that shape the UK’s love of gardening. Students will broaden their knowledge of the UK’s history of estate gardens and botanical gardens; learn who designed the properties; learn how the properties are maintained and administered to address 21st century challenges; and discover the role(s) the properties play in their local, national, and international communities.
Course Highlights
- Attend RHS Chelsea Flower Show to see some of today’s leading garden designers and their show gardens.
- Tour historic botanical gardens, estate gardens, parks, and cities and learn about the landscape architects, architects, and garden designers who designed them and whose impact is still pertinent to today’s garden and urban landscape design.
- Explore internship and continuing education opportunities.
- Experience authentic, multiethnic cuisine of London and traditional English and/or Scottish pub fare throughout the UK.

- HORT 5110: Advanced Horticultural Problems – Study Abroad Course in the UK (3 credit hours, graduate level)
*Undergraduate students at Oklahoma State University are required to take a class that carries a G designation for graduation purposes.
