Students Host Internship Night

This semester, the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow club, known as ACT, hosted an internship night. This annual event included two components, an internship showcase and the inaugural internship expo.
The expo offered a chance for students who are currently in or have recently completed internships to share their experiences. This was held in a tradeshow and poster presentation format for students to highlight their internship experiences. Each year, the agricultural communications program has roughly 70 students complete internships, said Quisto Settle, Oklahoma State University agricultural communications professor. The expo was a chance for students to show off their work but also a chance for their peers to see what internships are available.
“This becomes a chance for our younger students to not only see the wide variety of options that are available but also talk with people who have been in those internships,” Settle said.
The expo was also a chance for people outside of the department to see what students have been doing in their internships. Alumni, industry partners and Ferguson College of Agriculture faculty were invited to the expo.
“Our agricultural communications students are doing some really cool stuff, and we want more people to see it,” Settle said.
The second component of the internship night was the internship showcase. This component brings in industry partners to network with students and discuss their internship opportunities, said Kenna Sandberg, OSU ACT adviser. This year, 10 industry organizations participated in the internship showcase.
“I think it was cool to be able to have opportunities for students to see past internships and then see what internships are available now that they can apply for,” Sandberg said.
