Administrative Associate Passionate About Showing People Love

Monday, January 24, 2022

If people want to know what kind of Oklahoma State University employee Lesleigh Dexter is, the writing is on the wall...or in the letters.

In 2017, Dexter received the “Leave the Ladder Down” award for outstanding mentorship and encouragement while working in the OSU Department of Animal and Food Sciences.

“AFS presented me with a packet of letters written by colleagues and students,” Dexter said. “Those letters told of the impact my actions and attitude had on their lives. I didn’t realize how much of a difference I had made, so that was a profound moment for me.”

Dexter is now the administrative associate of human resources in the OSU Department of Plant and Soil Sciences. She is also a wife and mother of two children in middle school, and she holds a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness from OSU.

“I am passionate about showing the love of Jesus to everyone around me,” Dexter said. “I genuinely love helping, encouraging and trying to be a light in someone else’s day. This works out well since my primary role is working with people.”

Dexter said her favorite part of the job is meeting and getting to know people from all over the world.

“I love learning about different places, cultures and foods through the eyes of individuals who are actually from these places,” she said.

Outside of work, Dexter is very outdoorsy.

“I’m blessed to live on the river and in a lake community,” she said. “I enjoy hiking, hunting, fishing and camping. I love being on the water, boating and swimming. I’m all about road trips.  I also like cooking/baking, reading and doing puzzles.”

She also collects rocks.

“Instead of a flower bed, I have a rock bed in front of my house,” Dexter said. “It’s filled with varying types of cool rocks, geodes and even some gemstones I’ve found from many different states.”
