rural scholars program

Are you interested in challenges impacting rural communities? The Rural Renewal Initiative is seeking students to engage in the Rural Scholars program during the Summer of 2021. The Rural Scholars program is designed to mobilize undergraduate and graduate students to conduct research on challenges and opportunities impacting rural communities in Oklahoma and beyond. Students will receive firsthand community-based research and service experience, working to improve the livelihoods of rural citizens.

This paid opportunity will take place over 10 weeks in the summer of 2021. Students will live in a rural community and work with community leaders and OSU faculty to complete research projects and provide assistance, support, and hands-on solutions for community issues. Students will be properly trained and equipped in community-based research approaches. This boots on the ground experience will provide a unique opportunity for students to contribute to meaningful research in rural communities.

Research topics include:

  • Youth leadership and entrepreneurship
  • Rural healthcare and economics
  • Management of soil and water resources
  • Rural housing
  • Infrastructure revitalization
  • Rural broadband
  • Rural public policy
