Agricultural Communications Senior Madi Baughman Named a 2020 Orange Gown Recipient

Congratulations to Madi Baughman for being named as a 2020 Orange Gown recipient of the Ferguson College of Agriculture. 

 

Baughman is an agricultural communications and animal science senior who is being recognized as an Orange Gown recipient for her scholarship, leadership, and dedication to the Ferguson College of Agriculture. 

 

“Achieving the Orange Gown is an absolute honor,” said Madi Baughman, agricultural communications and animal science senior. “As someone who joined the Ferguson College of Agriculture just two short years ago, I believe this honor is a testament not only to me, but also to those who have mentored and taken a chance on me along the way.”

 

Baughman is originally from Lone Grove, Oklahoma where she grew up playing sports, showing pigs, and was actively involved in the FFA. 

 

“FFA was where I found a passion for service leadership and agricultural communications,” Baughman said. 

 

Before attending Oklahoma State University, Baughman graduated from Northern Oklahoma College with an associate’s degree in general agriculture. 

 

“Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of one day attending OSU because my parents are both alumni,” Baughman said. “Now, I can truly say I have been able to attend my dream school.” 

 

Since arriving at OSU in the Fall of 2018, Baughman has been actively involved in campus life. She is a member of the Sigma Alpha Sorority, Oklahoma Agricultural Leadership Encounter Class XVII,  Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, Swine Club, and Collegiate American Farmers and Ranchers. Baughman said her involvement on a campus level also led to her being selected for the Agriculture Future of America Student Advisory Team as well as participating in internships for Seaboard Foods and Angus Media.

 

“Faculty and staff have largely impacted my time at Oklahoma State,” Baughman said. “I could not be more thankful for the opportunities given to me by their constant mentorship, specifically in the AECL department.”

 

Baughman plans to obtain an internship with an agricultural-based company for the spring. Baughman said she plans to explore graduate school options and pursue a master's degree in animal science. 

 

“I want to pursue a career advocating and communicating for the agricultural industry,” Baughman said. “I am passionate about helping producers find innovative ways to feed the world as well as helping consumers make educated buying decisions.”  

 

Baughman said she is grateful for this honor and is thankful for the support of her family and the Ferguson College of Agriculture. 

“I am so happy to be representing not only the college but my family and their continuing legacy in the agricultural industry with this honor,” Baughman said. “I can truly say I have grown more as a young woman and as a future professional in the agricultural industry during my time here at OSU than ever before.”
