Research in my lab is focused on understanding the transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression during plant development and in response to environmental stresses such as drought and extreme temperatures.

The Canaan lab uses advanced technologies and genomics approaches including metagenomic, proteomic and molecular biology approaches, genome sequence analysis, RNAseq analysis, and various bioinformatics tools to study a variety of biological problems including study of antibiotic resistance in Elizabethkingia.

Quantitative and computational approaches to understand the dynamics and significance of genetic, environmental and evolutionary forces that shape the complexity of biological diversity. 

We are studying host-pathogen interactions during mycobacterial infections, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria.  

In my lab, we are using structural biology to unveil molecular mechanisms of key proteins involved in biological processes, infectious diseases, inflammatory diseases, autoimmune diseases and cancer.

The Feng lab is working on plant-microbe interactions to understand how and why plants make the decision to engage with pathogenic and symbiotic microbes in response to the diverse environmental conditions.

Mechanisms of antimicrobial-resistance and -reduced susceptibility in bacterial pathogens

Dr. Hartson uses proteomics and bioinformatics to study mechanisms of action of novel anti-cancer compounds.

Metabolic regulation of secreted proteins in obesity and diabetes

Structural, proteomic and biochemical approaches to study the mechanism of action of the Hsp90 chaperone machine, discovery of novel inhibitors acting on the machine  and the determination of the physiological consequences of its inhibition in cancer.
