New Faces
Philip Adepoju is a Ph.D. candidate with Dr. Meriem Aoun. His research will focus on mapping of leaf rust and stripe rust resistance genes in hard winter wheat elite breeding lines and cultivars from OSU. He received his B.S. degree in Agriculture (Crop Production and Protection) from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria in 2017, and his M.S. degree in Plant Pathology from the University of Georgia in Athens in 2024.
Gourav Beniwal is beginning his M.S. degree with Dr. Ashleigh Faris. His research will focus on evaluating the current economic thresholds (ETs) for stink bugs in Oklahoma cotton and soybean production systems. These ETs are based on data from other states/production regions and, in the case of cotton, do not consider the potential impact of new Bacillus thuringiensis technologies used by growers. Evaluating the efficacy of these ETs in production acreage and agronomic practices that are representative of the current Oklahoma agroecosystem will support economically and sustainably sound integrated pest management decisions. Gourav received his B.S. degree with honors distinction in Agriculture from Haryana Agricultural University in Haryana, India in 2024.
Carmen Castro is beginning her Ph.D. candidacy with Dr. Francisco Ochoa Corona. Her research will focus on improving and validating an Electronic-probe Diagnostic Nucleic-acid Analysis (EDNA) for roses. It will develop and assess two diagnostic isothermal methods for detecting the rosette virus in the field. Prior to coming to OSU, she worked in biosecurity for two years at USDA-APHIS and nearly three years at the National Center of Phytosanitary Reference (Centro Nacional de Referencia Fitosanitaria) of Mexico. Carmen received her B.S. degree in Biology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 2010, and her M.S. degree in Entomology from the Colegio De Postgraduados in Texoco, Mexico in 2020.
Mushfique Mobin is a Ph.D. candidate with Dr. Meriem Aoun. His research will focus on the identification of stripe rust resistance genes in OSU hard winter wheat. Mushfique received his B.S. degree in Agricultural Science in April 2023 and his M.S. degree in Plant Pathology in December 2024, both from Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh.
Congratulations!
Dr. Bruce Noden received a President’s Fellow Research Award during the University Awards Convocation on December 12.
