Course Learning Outcomes
This course provides students with an immersive experience in traditional and modern practices of growing, harvesting, and processing agricultural commodities. Through direct exposure to Thailand’s cultural, social, and agricultural contexts, students will examine international aspects of agricultural development, sustainability, and global trade, while developing skills to communicate across cultures and engage as globally competent professionals.
Course Highlights
- Explore the rich tea plantations of Chiang Rai and participate in hands-on tea blending, mixology, and tasting workshops.
- Engage with local communities through traditional cuisine, crafts, and market visits, including Akha cultural activities and Chiang Mai’s Jing Jai and Tha Pae Sunday Markets.
- Learn about modern Thai agribusiness and food production through visits to Sunsweet Co. Ltd. and Nithi Foods.
- Discover Northern Thailand’s cultural and architectural landmarks, including the White and Blue Temples, Singha Park, Pa Tan Temple, and other notable sites in Chiang Mai.
- Immerse yourself in Thai culinary traditions through dessert and cooking workshops and visits to Royal Project shops.
- Experience wildlife and eco-tourism at Mae Taeng Elephant Camp and Tiger Kingdom.

- FDSC 5120 Study Abroad Course in Food and Sustainable Agriculture in Thailand (3 credit hours, graduate level)
*Undergraduate students at Oklahoma State University are required to take at least one class that carries a G designation for graduation purposes.
