Research Building
Lab research BuildingEquipment for our field research is housed and maintained in our new 40’ x 60’ Fisheries Research Building, located just east of the Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit’s Research Building at 3015 West McElroy Rd (west end of main campus). This facility has three 14' wide x 10' high garage door bays and floor drains that allow us to dry equipment, perform maintenance, fabricate equipment as well as store our boats and research equipment.

Boats

Smith Root electrofishing boat being pulled on a trailer.

2006 Smith-Root Inc. SR-16EB - 16 foot aluminum boat powered by a 90 HP Evinrude E-tech engine. While this boat is designed as an electrofishing boat, it has removable bow railing and electrofishing booms so it can also easily be used as a net-setting boat.  It has a 5.0 GPP electrofishing system built into the center console and a 60-gallon livewell plumbed into the boat.  The boat is also wired to use either of our Lowrance depth sounder/gps units (12" HDS Carbon or 9"  HDS Gen2 Touch).

A boat sitting on a trailer.

2007 SeaArk 1872P - 18 foot aluminum boat with side steering console and 0.125 gauge tread plate floor and a bow deck with rivet-less design (so gill nets do not snag on it).  It is powered by a 115 HP Mercury CT four-stroke engine.  We have configured this boat for maximum flexibility.  It is 8 ft. wide and has a payload capacity of 1,360 lb/10 people, making it ideal for taking groups of students out in lab courses or carrying gill nets, trap nets, etc.  It is also configured to use our 7.5 GPP electrofishing system, 70-gallon removable livewell and has a removable bow railing and electrofishing booms so it can be used for electrofishing or net setting.  The boat is also wired to use either of our Lowrance depth sounder/gps units (12" HDS Carbon or 9"  HDS Gen2 Touch).
